Starting June 24, 2025, iPhone users in Japan can add their My Number Card to Apple Wallet. This article explains the features and benefits of this integration.
What You Can Do
Adding your My Number Card to iPhone enables several key functions. You can log into the My Portal government service portal to check medical expense records, pension records, file address change notifications, and apply for child benefits without needing the physical card. You can also obtain certificates like residency certificates at convenience store multi-copiers by tapping your iPhone.
How to Set Up
Open the Apple Wallet app, tap the + button, and select “My Number Card.” Follow the on-screen instructions to tap your physical card against the back of your iPhone and authenticate with Face ID or Touch ID. The process takes approximately 5 minutes.
Security
Your iPhone-stored My Number Card does not contain medical history or bank account information. If your iPhone is lost, you can suspend the card function through the Find My app or a 24/7 support hotline.
Future Plans
The Digital Agency plans to release a “My Number Card Face-to-Face Verification App” by July 2025, enabling in-person identity verification at hotels, stores, and contract signings using just your iPhone.
Summary
The integration of My Number Card with iPhone represents a significant step forward for Japan’s digital government services. It offers convenience without compromising security.
